Icelandic Chickens

Icelandic Chickens (or "Viking"or “Icies”) originated with the settlement of Iceland in the 9th century by the Norse, who brought their farmstead chickens with them when they settled in Iceland.

Icies are excellent foragers, have many colours, comb styles and even a few crests making them diverse and beautiful.

They are intelligent and hardy to both hot and cold weather.

Icelandics lay ivory to tinted eggs, even throughout winter.

They are a genetic treasure, as their DNA has been found to be %78 different from other breeds. Therefore cross breeding must be avoided.

Their conservation status is threatened.
